In the 1968 movie 2010: A Space Odyssey,
passengers journey to the moon aboard Pan Am SSTs. This movie
sparked many reservations for Pan Am's first commercial lunar
service.
Newly hired pilots in the 1960s were told,
"Congratulations gentlemen. You're going to be SST pilots." Pilots
were assured that Pan Am would be the first American airline to
fly supersonic transports.
